
The Tall Boy Production History
Kay Boyle's short story, The Lost, was originally published in a collection titled Smoking Mountain: Stories of Germany During the Occupation. Tandy acquired the rights from Kay Boyle’s estate and commissioned a stage adaptation from British playwright, Simon Bent.
The script began development at Guilford College in North Carolina where David Hammond directed a fully staged reading in 2011.
The show, by now titled THE TALL BOY had its premiere in August of 2012 at The University of North Texas.
In 2013 THE TALL BOY was presented by The Clarence Brown Theatre restaged for their Carousel Theatre by Bruch Reed.
THE TALL BOY then played three sold-out performances on Theatre Row on 42 Street in New York City as part of the 2014 United Solo Theatre Festival where it won the ‘Best Adaptation’ Award.
December 27, 2014, THE TALL BOY was performed once at Off-Broadway’s Theatre 80 on St. Marks Place as part of a special event.
The show came to The John Drew Theater at Guild Hall in East Hampton for one performance as part of the 2015 JDT Lab new play series.
In January 2016, had two performances at Rhode Island’s Courthouse Center for the Arts.
In October 2017, two performances at the Riggi Theater in Saratoga Springs, NY, presented by The Creative Place International
